Again, Hello friends and family. Today is the first day that Hannah and I have had a little time to chillax and take it easy. This past week has been hectic, overwhelming, exciting, and frustrating (more on that later). We got back to Utah last Friday after a dropping off Micah at the Sacramento Airport, visiting with Aunt Annie, and a night in Tahoe. The drive was quite uneventful. The next day we went shopping at the DI (Deseret Industries) and Salvation Army and picked up some essentials for the house. So far to date we now have a dinning set, love-seat, dresser, nightstand, end tables, and coffee table from these places and all of this for REALLY cheap. We also got a great deal on a washer and dryer that are less then 3 years old and have been in storage for a year an a half, from KSL.com classifieds. We also got a mattress and tv, but through regular stores. Our place is starting to come together....all we really need is a bed frame and a couch. We also need to put up our pictures and decorations.
Hannah and I both had a new teacher orientation this past Thursday, which went quite well...but boring and ALOT of information. We LOVE this school district...it is run very well and a lot of technology. We both were able to get into our schools and get keys. I still have to do more in my room because it used to be a Health Room...so I have to change it into a math room. I will definitely be teaching 7th grade pre-algebra...6 periods. Hannah also was in her room alot this week...the previous teacher left EVERYTHING in it and was quite disorganized. She has spent a few days cleaning and organizing. An aid of hers has been helping unpaid the past two days and they have made quite a dent. Speaking of aides, Hannah interviewed 12 people for 3 positions yesterday morning, so she finally got to be on the other end of the interview.
OK...now to the frustrating part of the last week. We took Hannah's car in to be inspected for emissions and safety, because of Utah law. WELL....we thought Hannah's car would pass the safety with no problem...but NOOOO....the stupid brake light doesnt go on when you put the keys in the "on" poisition. The brake light works when you pull the parking brake...but it doesnt go on when you start the car...SOO....it was rejected on the safety inspection. We spent the rest of the afternoon....going to the dealership...who told us it didnt have to go on...and then the Highway Patrol man who said it does. The next day we took it to the dealership to get it "fixed". They had a flowchart of 20 points to check for this type of problem. They got through 18....and found nothing wrong. The only two things that it could be is either the ignition switch (which they had to order) or the whole dash "cluster". The first would only be about 100 dollars and the latter would be over 800 dollars. IF it is the latter..the manager was trying to get it for free since the car is so new....but we hope it is just the ignition switch. Anyway...that is a long story and I had to vent...but basically we have to fix a car that is not broken.
Anyway...that is what has been happening this past week. We ask you for your prayers as Hannah and I start to really get into the thick of things next week with teaching. We also ask that you pray that the whole car thing will go smoothly.
One last thing. We LOVE visitors and would like to have them ASAP (actually in about a month or so...so we can get into a routine of teaching). We have an extra room.
good luck with the car... and thanks for sending me the link to your blog! I didn't know you guys had one.
