This past week was full of activity. We only had to three days of school because of Fall break. The reason for the break is because of the Utah Educators Association (UEA) conferences, but I think it is because the LDS church is having its General Conference this weekend. Which also brings up a funny story, this past Wednesday after school when I was talking to one of my colleagues a fellow teacher from down the hall came in to talk to me, she told me that this weekend was a perfect time for me to learn about the LDS because I could watch the General Conference. I politely told her that I had already been reading about the LDS church and that I would not be converting and that Hannah and I attend Alpine Church. She then left and as she was leaving she proclaimed, "You have until eternity to come to the 'One True Church'". Needless to say, I was slightly offended, and my colleague (who is also LDS), who witnessed the conversation, was also completely surprised and thought it was inappropriate. Also, Hannah and I are VERY thankful for this past weekend in that we needed a break from our kids.
OK that was this week at school. On Tuesday, Hannah's parents came to visit and stayed in our second bedroom. On Wednesday, they went to Salt Lake City and visited the temple and whatnot while we were teaching. That night we went out to pizza at a local joint called The Pie, which was really good pizza, but not as great as some say. On Thursday, we went to Heber City and rode a "scenic" train, which was completely overpriced and not really worth it. It was relaxing though and a nice change of pace. On Friday, we took a drive north to Promontory Point to the Golden Spike Historical Landmark. This is the place where the transcontinental railroad came together. This was definitely worth it, they have two replicas of the original trains, and they came out and you could see the steam and everything because it was only in the low 50's. We then went to Union Station, and visited the train museum, gun museum and car museum. The next morning Hannah's parents left and Hannah and I picked up the house and did some shopping. Both of us were slightly depressed, Hannah because her parents left, and me because I realized that I would never be able to take Dad to Promontory Point or the museums, or show him where I live and what I do. But today, Hannah and I are doing a little better, we went to the 10:30 service instead of the 9 at Alpine, and it was a lot busier, but it was good. Next, Sunday they have a desert social, to get to know the staff at alpine, and in two weeks they are starting the Alpine 201 class which we are looking forward to.
Tomorrow, Hannah and I are going to have a couple over for dinner that is from our small group, since we don't have small group tomorrow because the hosts are on vacation.Again, we want to thank you all for caring enough to read our blog and for your prayers. We continue to ask for your prayers and we will keep you in our prayers. We would love to have you come and visit, so please come and visit. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the fact that it was 87 on Tuesday and 47 on Wednesday (WITH SNOW).
